Non-Toxic Fall Scents

When I first began to awaken to all the toxins that were lurking in my home, I started packing up and getting rid of anything toxic – and that included my beloved scented candles!

One of my favourite things to do in the fall, was to go to our local Country store and pick out some DELICIOUS smelling fall candles. I LOVED the welcoming scent they gave off, and the cozy glow of candle light. I always thought it made my home feel more welcoming.

What I didn’t realize, is that the fumes from both the paraffin candle wax, AND the artificial scents, were putting toxins into my home that my kids and I were breathing in.

Essential Oils: An All Natural Replacement for Scented Candles

After a few years of living without those delicious fall scents (or simply simmering orange peels & spices on my stove, which I had to keep an eye on constantly to make sure it didn’t boil dry), I discovered the magic of essential oils.

I was SO excited when I figured out I could get those beautiful welcoming scents back – not only were they non-toxic, but they actually had HEALTH BENEFITS!

These beautiful essential oils would not only make my home smell great, but they could also support our immune system at the same time?! Count me in!

Essential Oils Have Health Benefits

Interestingly, many of the scents we crave in the fall – those spicy, deliciously aromatic scents, like cinnamon, clove, cardamom, etc. – all help to support our bodies in staying well, just as we head into the fall and winter season. When I realized this, it made so much sense to me why I always craved these spicy scents in the fall!

Here are some of the benefits of each of the essential oils in these Fall Diffuser Blends:

Wild Orange

Wild Orange Essential Oil is calming and uplifting to the mind and body. It can also help with digestive and immune support, as well as emotional balance.

Ginger

Ginger Essential Oil is a spice that has ben traditionally recognized for its affinity for the digestive system.

Additionally, this aroma may help influence physical energy, love, money, and courage.

Cinnamon Bark

Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil has wonderful immune-supporting qualities. It’s anti-fungal, anti-bacterial.

Cinnamon bark also helps support the circulatory system.

Clove

Clove Essential Oil is great to have on hand when dealing with tooth pain. Like cinnamon, it’s also anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, and assists with immune support.

Clove essential oil may also influence healing, improve memory, and create a feeling of protection and courage.

Patchouli

Patchouli Essential Oil has historically been used to reduce temperature, tone the skin, and is great for insect bites. It can also help break down toxic material in the body.

Patchouli essential oil is sedating, calming, and relaxing, which can help reduce anxious feelings. It also has aphrodisiac properties.

Cassia

Cassia essential oil is a relative of cinnamon, and has similar properties. It is antibacterial and anti-fungal. It can help support your immune system, digestive system, and your kidneys.

Cardamom is uplifting, refreshing, and invigorating. It may help support mental clarity.

*Safety Precautions for Essential Oils

Note that many of the essential oils that we use in these beautiful fall blends are spices… and most essential oils derived from spices are considered HOT oils.

What this means is you never want to apply them to your skin without diluting them with a carrier oil first.

Although we are talking about diffuser blends in this post, not topical application, I just wanted to forewarn you in case you happen to get one of these oils on your skin. If you do, you will want to apply some coconut oil or olive oil to help dilute the essential oil so it doesn’t cause skin irritation. Do NOT add water, as that will only drive the oil further into your skin.

Also, always keep these essential oils out of reach of children and pets. They smell DELICIOUS, but they are POTENT.

With all that said, let’s get onto the diffuser blends!

Where to Order Essential Oils

If you want truly high quality essential oils, with no synthetic additives, you’ll want to make sure you’re getting a good brand. I, personally, would never buy my essential oils from a health food store or a drug store etc.

These essential oils not only keep our home smelling great, but also play a role in our family’s health care. Therefore I want to make sure I’m getting the best.
