It’s always tricky figuring out what your first post should be on a blog, but I figured I should just treat it as if I were meeting you in person, and begin with an introduction! I’ll tell you a little bit about our life, and my reasons for starting this blog.

I am a single mom of 3 kids, whom I homeschool, striving for simplicity. We live on a 1/8 acre lot in a smallish city, in a home that we purchased about a year ago. We are slowly moving toward a life of self-reliance, opting to reduce our ecological footprint by growing our own food, cooking from scratch, making and mending, reducing our energy consumption, striving for zero waste, and buying local, sustainable goods.

I have felt a desire to start a blog for some time now. I feel the need to document our journey, so that we can track our progress and share it with others, in hopes that we can inspire others to realize that you can homestead under any circumstances, right where you are. I am a believer in baby steps, and that the only way to get where you want to go, is one small step at a time.

I hope you’ll enjoy following us on our journey, and I look forward to all of your comments!

Take care,

Alissa
